Prospects: HFG or BO

Here's the question. When I bought the Pattern for the Green Ones, I also bought the Hanging Garden Lace Stole pattern, because I have some plain (BEAUTIFUL) lace-weight pink merino yarn that I bought right before Christmas. (Remember? Yeah, the pretty pink stuff.)

The question is, do you think the HGS is going to look alright in hot pink? I think it will, but the pattern is making me a little bit woozy, so I thought I'd give you all a backup option.

The Branching Out scarf is pretty, smaller than the HGS, and I'm pretty sure I might be able to do it within 16 days. But no guarantee, I've never tried anything like it before.

I'm leaning towards the HGS, because it's interesting and cool and looks like there's no way in hell I'd ever get it done in 16 days. Then I step back, take a deep breath and realize I'm reading my own damned blog, and that I don't want to put myself through it and decide that the BO scarf is definitely more sane.

What do you think? I want all of your opinions so that I can totally ignore them and decide on something not even on the list at the last possible second. Come on, it's important to me!

My grandma taught me how to knit when I was like 8 or something. I can knit a straight row of mostly-even stitches, repeated until I either get bored or run out of yarn. Beyond that, it's so over my head I ought to wear a scuba tank just thinking about it. Or something.

At any rate, I think the HFG is pretty and looks wicked cool.

I'll be honest (which probably not what you're looking for, but you get it anyway). I think the HFG is beautiful and would be an awesome project. However, I don't think it would look good in hot pink. HFG says "classy" to me. Hot pink screams "punk rock." I am inclined to think that a meshing of the two would be something a little bit... off?

I like the BO. Not as much as I like the HFG, but I think it would work much better with the hot pink. And it looks a bit more durable in that you could wear it a lot more often.

I'm leaning toward the BO. I only do this because I'm a pain in the ass, and I want to be different.

Ditto what Jess said! Love the branching Out scarf. I've seen it around in various blogs, but never looked up the pattern. I think i might be headed to sock land when I complete my current projects!

Well, if you're just gonna ignore my comment anyway, I say you definitely oughta think about knitting diapers for elephants.

However, if you're NOT going to ignore me, I like the Branching Out, and I like hot pink.

Bleh, we'll see what happens. I'm probably going to get around to swatching out the two patterns later this week, and I'll take some pictures so you can see how they look in hot pink.

Sue: I'm totally with you. Wicked cool indeed.

Jess: You raise a valid point, but as always, I reserve the right to ignore sage advice and do what I want with disasterous consequences. And just because I knit it with a color that is not very classy (you're right, I admit) doesn't mean I'll never knit it with a classy color. It can be used over and over again! Wee!

~K~: The BO scarf is pretty neat, that's for sure. Be careful with socks, they're really fun and I haven't been able to make myself a matching pair yet...

HFB: The hot pink is not up for negotiation, it's the only lace-weight yarn I own. But thanks for the vote of support.
